RECO
REGE
SEP 10,
Government House,
Hongkong, 28th. July, 1910.
į
I have the honour to inform Your
Lordship that the Postmaster-General reports that the follow
-ing additions in the Staff of his Department will be
necessary next year when the Post Office moves into the new
Government Building now in course of construction:-
A.
A European Officer on duty in the
General Hall for the Public. The Hall is walled
off from the rooms where the European Officers
are at work. A European in charge is necessary
in the Hall to answer queries and keep order.
Persons visiting the Post Office hardly ever
believe a Chinaman, Portuguese or Indian and
frequently abuse them and order them to do
things contrary to their duty. Mr. Messer
proposes that Mr. Poole, at present Marine
Officer, be given this duty on a salary of £165
rising to £225 by £15 triennially. He has a good
grounding in the Post Office work, is gentleman➡
-like, and knows his limits.
B.
In the original design of the
building, there was no place to post letters.
This has been got over by providing the usual
posting
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
THE EARL OF CREWE, 80. *
